PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The objective of Al Rusafa Water Supply Project is to provide drinking water to Baghdad area at a Max capacity of 500 MGD (2,275,000 m3 /day) to address the deficit in demand. The final stage will be achieved by five streams of 100 MGD. The first stage of the project will provide 200 MGD (910,000 m3 /day), through two streams 100 MGD (455,000 m3 /day) each. The intake will be located at about 3.5 kms Shark Dijlah (Saba Nissan) and the WTP will be constructed along the main road, North of Baghdad. The final ground level of the site will be at 36.00 AOD, one meter above the maximum flood level. The treatment plant will be connected to the network through trunk mains, feeding the existing and future reservoirs, located in the eastern part of Baghdad city as well as the reservoirs in the Kerkh side. The reservoir R0 (At the Treatment Plant Site) and the trunk pipelines, with all electro-mechanical components of pumping stations, chlorination station, power stations and miscellaneous works.
Scope of Work:
The Civil Works and Equipment of Al Rusafa Drinking Water production plant project will mainly consist in:
1. One raw water intake structure on the left bank of the Tigris River: Designed and built for the final stage.
2. One raw water pumping station (RWPS): Civil works for the final stage and equipment for 200 MGD (40,000 m 3 / hr) with 6 pumps, 4 working and 2 as stand-by.
3. Five Raw water pipelines from RWPS to the water treatment plant inlet structure: 2,000 mm pipes. Out of these only two pipes will be used for the first two streams.
4. A Water Treatment Plant (WTP) divided into two streams of 100 MGD (20,000 m3 /h), including the following works:
4.1 Four (4) ozone contact chambers for the pre-oxidation by ozone.
4.2 Four (4) mechanical mixers for addition of alum and polyelectrolyte.
4.3 Sixteen (16) circular clarifiers with associated distribution chamber and de- sludging equipment.
4.4 Twenty eight (28) rapid gravity sand filters with filter backwashing and control facilities
. 4.5 2x90,000 m3 treated water reservoir.
4.6 A chemical handling, storage, preparation and dosage facilities for lime, alum and polyelectrolyte.
4.7 Ozone generating plant.
4.8 Chlorine building.
4.9 One treated water pumping station (TWPS): Civil works and equipment for the final stage of 500 MGD with a total of 16 pumps, 12 working and 4 as stand-by.
4.10 The Filter wash water recirculation.
4.11 The Sludge disposal facilities.
4.12 All auxiliary equipment including the service water distribution (potable water).
